The official scorer has been talking for the past five minutes on the subjects of big innings and earned runs. Only two or the nine runs in the Giants’ fifth were earned, but does it really matter?
Yeah, Oliver Perez might have gotten a bad call on Bengie Molina’s two-run homer, but is that really the point? Perez didn’t get any help from his defense, but after Molina’s homer, the Giants scored seven more runs.
Somewhere in all that carnage, somebody should have made a pitch.
Let’s not blame it all on the umps. Perez completely unraveled after the call. It was obvious whatever Rick Peterson told him on the mound didn’t help.
And, about Lino Urdaneta, the first thing that popped in my mind was whether his ERA could jump back up to infinity.
