Moises Alou’s left knee is still cranky and he’ll sit again tonight. Maybe tomorrow, manager Willie Randolph said. Endy Chavez’s right ankle is sore, but he’s playing.
Here’s what else is going on:
-Randolph said he wants to stretch out Ambiorix Burgos in the minors. Have him work a couple innings at a time. He’s young and throws hard and Randolph said there were discussions about making him a starter in spring training. That won’t happen now, but it is something worth keeping an eye on.
-Orlando Hernandez is starting a throwing program, but the Mets aren’t saying if he will be ready by the end of the week.
-The Mets go into tonight’s game hitting 6-for-9 in the series with runners in scoring position.
-Carlos Beltran takes a nine-game hitting streak into the game (14-for-36 for .389 with three homers and seven RBI in that span).
