Jorge Sosa is done for the night, leaving with two on and one out. Joe Smith is in to close out the inning. Nobody could have expected 6 1/3 scoreless from Sosa. He pitched great and if nothing else, sent the message Orlando Hernandez doesn’t have to rush back.

the runs aren’t charged to smith right, but to sosa?
phew! still have that 0.00 era, good for ROY votes!
Good first outing, little wild with that fastball, but I get the impression part of that is by design. Certainly earned another start. When he has runners on, man does the game slow down though.
Is Sosa for real or was this a fluke? Does he stay in the rotation for now? What happens when El Duque gets back? How much longer is he out? Was this Sosa’s first major-league start?

1. Those were inherited runners so they don’t count against Smith’s ERA.
2. Hard to say if it was a fluke or not. He’ll get another start as there is no reason to rush Hernandez. Duque is eligible to come off DL at the end of the week, but don’t count on it.
3. No … Sosa has started before. He was in the Braves’ rotation a few years ago.
