One of the key questions entering the season was whether “John Maine”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7386 would take the next step. At 4-0 with a 1.35 ERA, it looks as though he has.
Are you convinced he’s the real thing?
never a doubt in my mind. but hey he could implode tomorrow. so lets not jinx it. ;-]
I’ll reserve judgment for his second time around the league. But he looks great so far.
He was one of my favorite Mets coming into the season and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. There is an element of luck at play here as his BABIP or whatever that stat is named is wel below the league average (.215?) which means that the balls that are put in play are finding fielders, which is part luck. His flyball tendancy is also a factor there, as he’s pitching in fair or pitchers parks so far this year, which may turn some flyouts in homers as the year goes on.
I see no reason why he cant be effective, and be a solid #2 starter, all year. 24-0 with a 1.35 ERA is probably asking a bit much… ;)
Trades like the one for Maine kinda make you forget Kazmir…..
