Kevin Devaney here, filling in tonight for John Delcos as the Mets take on the Marlins at Shea Stadium.
A little bit of news, in case you haven’t heard: Orlando Hernandez has been placed on the 15-day DL with bursitis in his right shoulder. He was supposed to start tonight but will be replaced by Chan Ho Park, the former $65 million pitcher now in the minors.
Park was recalled today from Class AAA New Orleans, where he was 3-1 with a 7.29 ERA in four starts. He allowed 26 hits in 21 innings and served up six home runs. Things, apparently, never change.
I’m not going to lie, this doesn’t sound promising for the Mets. Had this been a day earlier, it would have been Jorge Sosa getting the call. Park, though, is a veteran and former all-star who I’m sure will pitch better now that he’s on a major league roster.
I’ll check back before the game with lineups and other news, including an update on Jose Valentin.

Would you rather have the fastball-happy Sosa against the young Marlins? I actually think Park and his better breaking pitches are a better matchup against the Marlins. Now whether he’ll be any good tonight is a different matter altogether.
good lord would somebody give this dude a chance??
good lord would somebody give this dude a chance?? everyone expects him to fail. i mean i know he’s not really that great but it’s silly to act like we’re automatically going to lose this game.
Chan Ho Park will throw the Mets’ first no-hitter. You heard it here.
As dan said. we need to give him a chance. Now that we need someone to start. here ya go. otherwise we have long relief etc..
i am sure willie wont let him get too far into the hole.
Ok, ok, I won’t totally throw Chan Ho Park under the bus before he even takes the mound tonight. It actually wouldn’t shock me if Chan Ho went 5 innings today and kept the Mets in the game. The Mets have a way sometimes of finding life in retread pitchers.
Park has also pitched pretty well in his career at Shea (2.92 ERA in 24 2/3 innings). He’s also never faced most of the regulars in the Marlins lineup, which could work in his favor. Who knows?
All the Mets need out of him is 5 innings and 4 runs or less. Anything close to that or better would be a success.
Adam Rubin (Daily News) and Ed Coleman (WFAN) are also reporting the Mets are putting Jose Valentin on the DL with a strain of the ACL and Ruben Gotay is traveling up to NY with Chan Ho….
