On why Willie didn’t pinch-hit for Perez: He said he thought Perez deserved to stay in after he rebounded and that it was still early in the game and he expected the offense to do something.
On Green not moving the Alou over in the eighth: He said he wanted to, but once he fell behind 0-and-2 he became a defensive hitter and that he didn’t get a good swing at the pitch.
When the offense goes 3-for-11 with RISP, there’s plenty of blame to go around.

It’s not like we didn’t get PLENTY of runners on base afterwards, or like he got a big pinch hit when he did go to the bench.
The Mets had some awful at-bats with two outs and runners on.
On the other hand, the Braves had scored 60 runs with two outs this season.
I continue to be impressed with the way Willie treats his players. It sure pays off with their devotion to him and their teammates as well.
I don’t fault Willie for leaving Perez in. He was going strong and you’d expect the Mets to be able to get another run or two later on. The eighth was disgusting, with no one able to even move Alou from second with no one out. Rauch made a couple of mistakes that inning that he didn’t pay for.
Willie needs to stop ‘trusting his guys’ and start making the right decisions.
Not pinch hitting for Perez was chancy, but I understood the need to spare the pen with Perez pitching well. Why Willie did not pinch run Endy C for Alou at second with no outs and a defensive replacement already logical is beyond me. Two relatively deep fly balls later, it could have been a tie game.
To DG (RE: Alou)
In hindsight, you’re right. But, at the time Alou is on second with no outs. You would think they could have gotten him home. Alou didn’t run the bases well there, which made Randolph’s decision even worse.
