Mike Pelfrey made the rotation coming out of spring training based on performance. However, save his first start, he’s not pitched well. The Rockies hammered him today.
The problem, in a nutshell, has been command. One game he’s not locating his fastball. Another, he’s not getting his breaking balls over. The rest of the Mets’ rotation has been good. Oliver Perez still runs hot and cold, but the first three have been consistently good.
Because the rest of the rotation is producing, I’m inclined to give Pelfrey a longer leash to work out his problems. Three or four more like today, then maybe he should go back down. Just not now. Agree?
