Update from Kevin at Shea:
John Maine left to a well-deserved standing ovation with two outs in the eighth inning as the Mets appear to be on their way to yet another win over the Rockies at Shea Stadium.
The Mets are up 6-1 in the eighth thanks to Maine’s brilliance on the mound, and a pair of Jose Valentin and Carlos Delgado home runs. Valentin hit a three-run shot in the second and added a sac-fly in the fourth, and Delgado hit a two-run blast in the seventh, his first of the year.
It was a pretty non-descript game, really. Maine dominated a terrible Colorado lineup and the Mets consistently got men on base against young Rockies pitchers.
David Wright is still hitless and Paul Lo Duca looks equally bad at the plate. With this team, though, it doesn’t seem to matter. Their lineup overwhelms almost any team in the National League.
I’ll check back later with a postgame update.
