In-Game: Open wide

April
22

Sorry I couldn’t be with you yesterday. I had an abscessed tooth and spent much of the late morning in the dentist’s chair. Then spent much of the afternoon sleeping. Woke up get yesterday’s score then called it a day. Nothing like the dentist to scuttle your day.

Well, the boys figured out John Smoltz today. Horrible play by Shawn Green just now. You have to make that catch. Three-run lead in the seventh. I’m wondering isn’t that the time to put Endy in for D?

...c’mon John, what was that. I don’t care how far Green hit that ball, he can’t pull a Baryshnikov on a routine fly like that with two out. That’s more of what we saw last year, and why Green is a liability…..

I wrote that … Endy should have been in there. If you’re going to have a defensive replacement, then use him. This game is slipping away.

...completely changed the complexion of the ballgame. When you’ve got the Braves on the ropes, you just can’t give them extra outs….

Schoeneweis has not looked good this year. Even though the runs he gave up today were the first he has allowed all year, he has constantly been behind hitters. He hasn’t looked confident from day 1.

It was garbage to pitch Renteria down in the zone anyway. You have to get him out high and tight-especially in a game where the ump is calling the high strike. Heilman was all over the place even before the homerun. I just don’t think he had much of an idea of where the ball was going. The difference in the seriesapart from Hudson who was unhitable-was the bullpens. Ours didn’t hold the Braves down when they hurt Pelfrey early and couldn’t keep extra runners off the bases or keep the ball in the park.

We knew the bullpen would come back to earth at some point. So, no need to overreact, but it was bad pitch selection today as much as anything else.

    hope you’re feeling better, john.

Sometimes I think Willie gives the veterans a little too much respect. Endy should have been put in at that point. Maybe Willie wanted to give Green a 4th AB, plus he did have the home run earlier.

the way Green’s been swinging the bat vs. Atlanta, I don’t see taking him out. But maybe Endy beats out a grounder there in the 9th….you never can tell, hindsight’s 20/20..

The fact that Green has no clue in the field, both from seeing the ball and getting to it to making decisions on where and how to throw the ball, Endy should be there in the seventh.

Things like this would not happen. I realize Green’s bat has been hot, but his glove has been cold. Endy is the best fielder we have. Put him in. A no brainer. And this is not second guessing. This should be the rule.

so, you would rather have Endy up late in the game than Green?
Ok then. So, will you all back Willie if Endy is in there, comes up in a tight spot and strikes out?
    Nope.
Will you say Green should have been in there because he can hit for power.
    Yep, you sure will.
