I’ll take two things from tonight’s game.
The first is how the offense came together. The first six hitters reached base and they never let up the pressure. That’s a smothering offense. The constant pressure can be more deflating to the opposition than by hitting home runs.
The second, of course, is Maine. By his own admission, he has a tendency to lose focus. This comes even more into play with a big lead. Save the home run ball to Joe Borchard and Maine didn’t blink all night. He had a big lead all night and it took the Marlins until the seventh to get to him.
I also Maine slotted between Tom Glavine and Orlando Hernandez. It mixes in a hard thrower and if he can consistently give them seven that will help the bullpen.
