An update from Shea from Kevin Devaney:
One inning is in the books and, although neither pitcher looks comfortable throwing the ball, baseball will actually be played.
Tom Glavine gave up a leadoff homer to fan favorite Jimmy Rollins and then walked two more in the first. Jamie Moyer allowed singles to the first three Mets hitters he faced, and we’re tied at 1-1 after the first.
You’ve got to love left-handed pitchers, they have jobs forever. When I have kids (I’m only 26), I’m going to tie their right arms to their legs and force them to throw left-handed.
By the way, no Lastings Milledge in the lineup on what will almost certainly be his final day in the majors (until Shawn Green gets released in two months). I’m disappointed. Moyer is a lefty and with this these miserable conditions, Milledge could have gotten a start in right. I’m not the biggest Milledge fan (he seems a little too raw still to be an everyday major leaguer), but let the kid play. They want to get him at-bats. Tonight was the night.
Check back throughout the game for updates. Sorry for the delay before but my hands were frozen solid.
