This is from Kevin Devaney, who’s covering the Mets down at Shea tonight:
Oliver Perez is on the mound for the Mets, delivering the first pitch to Jimmy Rollins as I write this.
It’s freezing cold, yet Perez is in short sleeves. Maybe it’s from that steaming hot coffee I saw him drinking before the game.
The lineup is what it has been so far: Reyes, Lo Duca, Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Alou, Green and Valentin. No Milledge. I figured maybe he’d get a start at some point before the Mets send him down. Guess not.
Willie wouldn’t commit that Milledge is headed to the minors on Friday when they officially call up Mike Pelfrey to start. But it sure seems like that’s going to happen. Milledge clearly doesn’t want to go.
“The best thing for me is to be up here. … There are so many veteran who can help me in my development.”
Should Milledge stay? Personally, I think it would be best for him to play every day. Check back when Green is hitting .145 in May.
Getting back to the game. Drop me a line if you’ve got anything on your chest.
