Runners on first and second and the hitter Shane Victorino drops one down in front of the plate. Maine goes to third and the runner goes to second. The play is to first, and Maine should’ve gotten help from the catcher.
Maybe Lo Duca told him third, maybe he called first and Maine didn’t listen, maybe he didn’t say anything.
Either way, the runner—Cole Hamels—would have scored anyway. The play matters if the inning is extended and a run scores because of it.
Mets get two on in the bottom of the inning, but can’t bring anybody home.
