If you’re going to pinch-run with slow runners Moises Alou and Shawn Green on second and first, respectively, then why don’t you run for the lead runner _ the tying run _ instead?
If you know you’re going to sacrifice, don’t you want the speed on second to beat a play at third?
Of course, this would have been a moot point had Alou ran hard out of the box. If so, he would have been on second and not first ahead of Green.

Well Willie made a few bad calls today, and they are all going to be ignored thanks to the 800 gorilla in the room, otherwise known as the worst ‘pen since…well since Atlanta last year. Wow.
I think Rollins might want to sit the next 2 out as well.
Reading your blog is like being at the game if you’re unable to get to a t.v. for live coverage. Good job, John. Keep it up.
John,
I agree, I would’ve put Endy in Alou’s position, allowing the speed to run free, instead of being held up behind a 40 year old’s legs.
BUT none of that mattered. 11-5!
yeah. i was thinking that too.
Only thing I can think of is defensive replacement in right to leave Alou in.
By the way, the more I see Green play the more I want him platooned. His decision making is terrible. I would rather have endy and milledge just split the position.

This just in, Mike Hampton done for the year. I’ll take it.
1st of all the runner at 2nd has a much greater lead than a runner at 1st. i also assume they know where they want the ball to be dropped to make sure the guy gets to 3rd and possibly put 2 into scoring position instead of 1. of course the players have to execute properly to make it happen, but it makes sense to me. i think willie was playin for the win, not the tie.
