Happy Birthday, Gary Carter, born in 1954. The foundation for Carter’s career was with the Montreal Expos, but he won with the Mets.
Any memories of The Kid?
Carter nearly single-handedly catapulted the Mets into the playoffs with an unearthly September in 1985. (I seem to remember he hit something like 13 homers in the month.)
After that, he seemed much more of a shadow of his former self. A necessary ingredient to the 1986 mix, he never really reached those same peak levels as he did during his first year in New York.
The final piece to the puzzle.
Always smiling like Mookie. But his best days were behind him.
