The concern heading into the season was the Mets’ starting pitching, especially what to expect from John Maine and Oliver Perez. Both have been fantastic in their first starts. Of course it’s only one game each, but Maine at St. Louis and Perez tonight here at Atlanta have done the thing preached upon them, and that is be aggressive in the strikezone.
It doesn’t get much better than this.

No it doesn’t get much better.
I expect full written descriptions of the taste of crow from all who hated on the Mets pitching staff.
This is not a fluke.
Right now it looks like we have 4 aces if they all keep up this pace.
What was most impressive about Perez was that he was not that sharp in the first 5 innings but only gave up 1 run. He didn’t give up on throwing in the strike zone, something he tried to avoid too often last year.

You’re right. When Perez has gotten in trouble in the past he tries to nibble and trick the hitters. Last night he went after them. That’s the difference.
