Just checked into the hotel about an hour ago. Delays out of St. Louis and with the connection in Dallas. It doesn’t matter how you plan these things, something always happens.
A little bit of weather, a little bit of mechanical, and the next thing you know the day is gone and you’re sitting in the airport terminal between a screaming baby and somebody who hasn’t discovered soap.
On the plus side, I got to see the half-dozen or so Dallas Cowboys-related shops at the Big-D airport.
I was thinking about writing a book, calling it “Seat 21A” and it would be about all the interesting people I meet on the road. I met this guy today who used to live in NY and now lives in St. Louis and owns a company that does business in China. I guess St. Louis does cut the commute a bit.
My streak, of course, is now reaching Cal Ripken proportions for flights where I don’t sit next to a supermodel. I did sit across the aisle from Jessica Biel a couple of years ago.
I also sat next to Ted Kennedy on a Boston to Washington DC flight. Either that or meeting Meatloaf is my brush with greatness.
The off-day story in tomorrow’s Journal News will be on the Mets’ hot start. Last year they opened at 8-1. If they do the same this year, they would be sending a message to the Braves and Phillies that last year was no fluke.
By the way, anybody hear anything from Jimmy Rollins lately?
