The big thing tonight was getting seven innings from Orlando Hernandez. They are looking for six, so seven was a bonus. A key to this season will be getting solid starts from Tom Glavine and Hernandez, which is what has happened the first two games.
The key for Hernandez is when he goes after hitters and doesn’t nibble. Said manager Willie Randolph: “He attacks hitters. He attacks the zone. It doesn’t matter who the hitters are. He does what he has to do.’’
What else happened:
-Paul Lo Duca drove in a run and advanced another into scoring position with a bunt in the first. He has four RBI in the first two games hitting second. That should put this issue to bed.
-Shawn Green didn’t have a good night, going hitless in four at-bats, including two strikeouts. One came with runners on second and third and one out in the sixth. A hit there could have done a lot for his psyche. After the game Randolph said he would not bench Green.
