The Mets did a lot of things right tonight:
-They have a blueprint which is to get six from the starters and turn the game over to the bullpen. Tom Glavine gave them six strong and left with a big lead.
-The defense played huge. Jose Valentin started one of four DPs with a diving back-handed stab. Carlos Beltran threw out a runner at the plate and Moises Alou made a diving catch.
-The Mets also left spring training with three offensive issues, all addressed on the positive. After missing six games at the end of spring training there was concern about rust with Carlos Delgado, but he doubled in the game’s first two runs. Also, Paul Lo Duca had something to say about hitting second in the order with three RBI. And, Shawn Green had two hits.
All in all, a good start.
