Just ready to head down to the clubhouse. Got to the park a few minutes ago. Interesting travel day on the first day of the season. Airline lost my luggage. I was so tempted to wear shorts for comfort but didn’t.
The way I look at it, things have to go uphill from here.
A beautiful day here. A little windy. Blowing out now.
We already have some early notes:
-The Mets’ Opening Day roster includes 12 players not on the roster at the beginning of last season: Orlando Hernandez, John Maine, Oliver Perez, Aaron Sele, Joe Smith, Scott Schoeneweis, Ambiorix Burgos, Damion Easley, David Newhan, Moises Alou, Shawn Green and Lastings Milledge.
-David Wright will be fifth in the order tonight against St. Louis. For much of spring training, manager Willie Randolph tinkered with the order and had Wright hitting second.
-Pedro Martinez, Duaner Sanchez and Juan Padilla, and Dave Williams, were placed on the 15-day disabled list to start the season.
-Mike Pelfrey, who made the roster as the fifth starter, was optioned to Class A St. Lucie. With three off days in the first two weeks of the season, Pelfrey’s spot in the rotation wouldn’t be until April 13.
-This is the 22nd time the Mets began the season on the road.
-Tom Glavine will start his eighth Opening Day and fourth with the Mets. Only Tom Seaver (11) and Dwight Gooden (eight) had more.
