pelfey just rocked the house. Brilliant spring stats with 35 hits in 20 inning with 5k's to boot. He's ready for the bigs....can't wait. lol. Mets brass look like idiots, not only for their decision making, but for their lack of common courtesy.

Nope. Just stating the facts. A veteran pitching with 25k's in 18 innings.....and he can't make the Mets rotation. Give me a break.

* To Mike (RE: Reasons): Either Park, Omar or Willie acknowledged the first five to some degree. The one on jazz was all mine.

* To Metsfansince62: (RE: Burgos/Smith): Burgos for sure, and probably Smith, will eventually find their way to the minors before the end of the season.

* To Mel (RE: Has been): The Mets want Park because they know they have holes in their rotation. Better to have a guy to have on hand now rather than shop in desperation later.

* To MetsToday (RE: Park's role): Park is supposed to start in Triple-A.

Any idea as to what role Park will have with the Zephyrs? Will he continue to be groomed for setup relief, or will he go back to starting and be insurance for El Duque, etc. ?

This is total BS. Park should have made the team regardless of how he pitched in the spring and this is notwithstanding the fact that he led the team in K's (aveing about 12ks/9innings) and was throwing comfortably in the 91-93 range.

Our rotation just sucks, we have two 40 yr olds who can barely hit 86-88 on the gun, two guys with potential but who have pitched less than 100 mlb innings, and a guy with an "upside" who's in fact really had only 1 full quality yr as a mlb starter. Spring ERA over 20 innings is a useless peice of information. Park had 2 or 3 bad innings. Spring K's mean something. ie. they are transferable to the regular season.

I don't know why he accepted other than the fact that he wants to pitch in the playoffs. But lets get real, we have the best offence, but we're never going to win a 7 game series against a real staff with a good 1 2 punch. ie. Boston, Yanks, Toronto.

One things for sure though....when Park is looking for a 2-3 yr contract at the end of the season all this shananigans is not going to do the Mets any favors. Randolph has some issues.

I can't understand this love affair with a guy who has been average to lousy for the last five years. One has been in the bull pen is fine and that is Sele, two is too many, and Chan Ho is going where he can be a happy starter and if he's lucky he'll get called up and won't be as bad as Lima, but if we're lucky when we need a starter Vargas or Humber will be ready so we don't have to see Chan Ho in Shea.
And if Burgos can't make it he can replace the late not so great Bell as the 4A relief pitcher except the shuttle will go a little further South this year. The decisions were great.

i think they shouldve kept park up and burgos sent to the minors..burgos needs some growing up to do and i can see burgos costing the mets a few games early in the season..smith will be fine this season..park could be an excellent reliever cause he can get the strikeouts

Ambiorix Burgos and Joe Smith both made the team. Yet if you look at their performances last year Smith in 10 games at double A Binghamton was terrible and Burgos was the same for KC last year. Smith pitched well in ST while Burgos looked like the same pitcher he was in KC. It’s very possible that one or perhaps both could end up back in the minors before too long. I think Smith if used properly has a better shot at sticking than Burgos. I know Burgos has nasty stuff but so does Julio, Benitez, Owens, Lindstrom and Bell and none of them is still with the Mets. Coupled with the age of some of the pitchers and assorted injuries that always occur in the season if Park does well at triple A he has an excellent chance of being called up.

How many of these did Chan actually say, and how many are speculation?

Thanks,
