You have to consider that Park will get $600,000 if he makes the Opening Day roster. Adkins has been absolutely awful, and will probably pass through waivers (if Jim Duquette isn't looking). To keep Park with the hopes that he'll turn into a setup man is not sensible, especially since he's made it clear that his heart isn't in it. While he'd have value as a spot starter, you can't condition a guy to pitch one inning at a time and then suddenly expect him to throw 6 innings. Philip Humber, Jason Vargas, Aaron Sele, and eventually Dave Williams will be available to spot start. Let Park walk, keep Burgos around, and decide whether to waive Adkins.
