“Julio Franco”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=3001 took Jerome Williams deep in the second. Franco went into tonight’s game batting .314, so something has to be left in the tank.
It’s hard to quantify Franco’s value because it comes in many forms. Pushing Carlos Beltran out of the dugout last year to take a curtain call eased the tension between player and the fans.
Beltran, who was booed Opening Day, wanted to punish the fans by staying in the dugout. Franco told him that was a battle he would never win. Beltran took a bow, then had a monster season. Coincidence? Maybe not.
