Initially, Mets GM Omar Minaya said Duaner Sanchez would have surgery on his right shoulder. He has since clarified that, saying: “Based on what our doctors are saying, he needs surgery. The alternative is to not have surgery and see if the bone heals on its own.’’
The Mets can’t force Sanchez to have surgery, as the patient always has the final say, but if he wants to pitch again, bet on him having it.
Said manager Willie Randolph: “I wasn’t counting on him anyway.’’
