March 26: News not good on Sanchez

March
26

Duaner Sanchez’s MRI results are in and showed a hairline fracture to a small bone in the front of his shoulder. Surgery will be needed and it will entail inserting a small screw in the shoulder.

GM Omar Minaya said Sanchez could rehab in another 6 to 8 weeks, and it would be another 6 to 8 weeks after that until he could get in a game.

Minaya said the area could have been weakened by the taxi accident, July 31, and the crack developed when Sanchez started throwing.

“It was a combination of things,’’ Minaya said. “If you ask me, it was going to happen at some point in time.’’

Frankly, as soon as I heard the phrase “20 lbs overweight” a few weeks ago, I assumed the mets wouldn’t be able to count on this guy at all this year.
