I went through the McDonald’s drive thru for an Egg McMuffin.
I was supposed to get $2.98 in change back, but the guy said, “I’m shorting you three cents.’’
“Why?” was my quick response.
Ronald McDonald: “I don’t have three pennies in my drawer.’’
Me: “Well go get them. Well go get them, what’s the problem?’’
Ronald: “I would have to get my manager.’’
Me: “Why don’t you just give me three bucks back, then?’’
Ronald: “I can’t do that.’’
Me: “McDonald’s can’t cough up an extra two cents? You must be joking. I would normally let it slide, but since you guys are going cheap on me, I won’t. I’ll just stay here until this multi-billion dollar corporation can come up with three pennies.’’
McDonald’s doesn’t want their drive-thru backed up. So he got it. And, I was wondering: Multiply three cents by billions served and what do you get?

Did someone wake up crabby this Monday morning? You took out your frustration on a minimum wage grunt who could get written up or canned if his till comes up short, over 3 cents. You held up how many people who have lives to get on with over what, 3 cents. Say I don’t get my morning paper on time in the morning, and I have to buy 1 on my way to work. Would it be ok for me to block the outgoing dock the next morning until I get a refund on my 1 missed paper? After all they do sell billions every year. 1 missed paper multiplied by every customer, how much does that come to yearly?
Sean, you’re the crabby one! John was totally within his rights! Good for you John for standing up for your principles…lol!
sheadenizen, I am not crabby. I was just pointing out that this situation is not only present at Mc’D’s, but at just about everywhere. While he may have been well within his rights, it is not the way to stand up for your principles. To possibly make others late and to give a guy who is low on the totem pole a hard time is not the proper way to handle it. If 3 pennies is enough to irk him he should have parked the car, went in to talk to the manager, and complained through the proper channels. Personally I would have checked to see if I had a few pennies in my pocket or car if it meant that much to me to make up the difference, as it obviously was not an intentional slight by the guy in the window. However, I would have gotten crabby had I been 1 of those people on my way to work, or school, or whatever, and been made late because some guy became anal about 3 cents. My principles tell me not to hold up the world for a 3 measly cents and to handle a problem in a polite and proper way that does not create more problems for more people.
It’s a dog eat dog McWorld
and we all have to battle
If I were John, I would be like
“What’s up with that?”
I know in McWorld
3 cents is pure profit
but in my world
give me my damn change
As for you Sean,
a tool of a McJob,
Like the guy,
from that radically,
humorous movie Home Alone said
“keep the change
you filthy animal”
Sheadenizen,
great leader of group,
was right
stop being crabby

This is not John’s fault in any way.
John dont listen to anyone that tells you that.
The register should have had enough change in it to give you proper change, and if that wasnt the case he should have given you a nickel.
Not giving you the $.03 when you clearly wanted is completely unacceptable and you should have sat there and waited until you were satisfied.
and no its not John’s fault if anyone is late cuz he sat there, its mcdonalds for not having enough change in its registers or not taking the obvious quick solution of giving john a nickel.
The best part of the story is that the guy told you he was going to short you three cents. Which, you know, makes it ok.
You think that’s bad? After taking a half-day from work and driving an hour to the DMV, I was turned away because “the Albany office” didn’t tell “the Queens office” of my appointment. As you can imagine, I did my best Earl Weaver/Billy Martin impression upon hearing the news.

People will always be taken advantage of if they don’t stand up for their rights. I hope you had a base you could throw.
On a side note, John, I know you were standing up for your principles and all at McDonalds, but you might find this article interesting about the value of the penny:
