March 25: Pelfrey named to rotation; Milledge taken for X-Rays

March
25

Mike Pelfrey walked into Willie Randolph’s office and less than five minutes later walked out with a smile and the announcement: “They told me I made the team.’’

Pelfrey did not pitch well in this afternoon’s 11-3 loss to Houston, giving up four runs on six hits in five innings. Willie Randolph said it didn’t matter, that Pelfrey’s body of work all spring is what won him the job.

However, the Mets did not announce whether Pelfrey will open the season in New Orleans, where he could get two starts in before joining the rotation.

After the game, outfielder Lastings Milledge was taken for X-Rays on his right hand. Milledge was hit by a Matt Albers pitch leading off the ninth inning.
