March 24: Post-Game: Why Park wasn’t told

Chan Ho Park said he wasn’t told before the game he’d be pulled after three innings, and Willie Randolph admitted that was true.
His reasoning: “I didn’t want to get in the way of him preparing for the game.’’
It does make sense. If Randolph told Park something unsettling and he gave it up, then he wouldn’t get a true reading of Park that day. Then again, as a professional, he would have to put something like that behind him.
Randolph said Park would work three times out of the pen this week, which is something Mike Pelfrey will not do. There’s no doubt what’s going on here. Randolph is giving Park a chance to win the long relief job simply because Jorge Sosa hasn’t gotten it done.
While Park hasn’t pitched lights out this spring, he has shown enough where somebody would claim him if he were released. But, that won’t happen. The Mets would try to make a deal first.

john does that have any affect on starting the season with 4 starters???

This doesn’t change the fact there are three off days the first two weeks of the season, which means the fifth starter won’t be pitching on a regular basis. It’s not unrealistic to think Pelfrey could be slotted in fourth and Oliver Perez bumped to fifth and be the odd-man out at the start.
