they are giving guys a shot in the rotation who have pitched less than 100 mlb innings based on what? 3 or 4 solid spring starts and in the case of maine also one great playoff performance. park has been roughed up in the spring but based on an inning here and there. his stuff is still good and no one mentions that he leads the staff in k's. imo it would have been wiser to give a veteran a chance and keep everyone happy until he either performs or doesn't.

I do understand that he feels he's being treated a little unfairly, especially if this wasn't announced to him before the game. Sele got a full start in and he doesn't have a garunteed MLB contract and is older. So why cut Park so short? Not to mention Park was already on 7 or 8 days rest and hasn't had as many starts as Sele to begin with while Sele got to pitch on his regular day. It does seem a little as if Park's not being given a chance, that makes some sense though with the growth of Pelfrey.

With the incentive laden contract Park has, it makes some sets financially as well for the Mets to use Park as a reliever if they carry him. Less innings probably means less money being paid to him.

I imagine the reason Sele got a full start in his last outing is the Mets weren't sure El Duque would be ready to go. They may have needed someone ready to start in that second week of the season. Well, El Duque settled any uncertainty the other day and so now its time for Sele and Park to battle it out for a bullpen role if they'll accept that. If Duque had gotten touched up last night, Park may have gotten a full start today.

John, I hate to say I was right, but I was right. I would think that Park is a far more interesting relief candidate than Sele is.

Park and Sele need to take a long look in the mirror and get a grip. They got beat out of a job fair and square, and they're really not good enough to make demands and ultimatums. Get in line with your whining behind Heilman.

Act like a professional or get the hell out of town.
