Unless your name is Mike Pelfrey, it wasn’t a good day to be one of the candidates for the Mets’ fifth starter role.
Chan Ho Park: Gave up seven runs on seven hits, including three homers, in the 13-1 loss to Washington. Park was wild high and said he hung his pitches. He also admitted he might be pressing, which is a surprise considering he’s supposed to be the calm veteran.
Jorge Sosa: Also against Washington, gave up six runs on eight hits in two innings. The Mets are looking at Sosa more as a middle reliever, a guy to come in when the starter gets shelled. (Insert your own punchline here)
Aaron Sele: Mets PR guru Jay Horwitz got everybody’s attention when he started a sentence with the words, “Aaron Sele retired,’’ but he ended it by saying “15 of last 16 batters he faced.’’ Unfortunately for Sele, the first seven Orioles got hits, and six of them scored. The Mets lost, 9-0.
