John: I’m asuming Duque will pitch tomorrow in one of the short-squad games. You haven’t heard any talk of his not being ready for Opening Day, right? It just seems like he hasn’t had that much of a chance to pitch against live batters.

Any in-game observations?

Steve: El Duque would be pitching on three days rest since his simulated game, which I doubt the mets would do. El Duque is probably slated for sunday. If willie is setting up his rotation for the first week of the season the way I think he is, El Duque will pitch on sunday since Glavine threw tonight and there is an off day between Glavine’s first start and El Duque’s first start. Am I right John?
Park starts one game tomorrow and Sele starts the other according to Noble.
Where’s Sosa been John? I’m sure he is now being viewed as a reliever and could really step up now that Burgos has struggled tonight.

Why is Burgos being “handed” a bullpen spot by every writer that covers the Mets? He is exactly what his numbers say he is. Lousy. Home runs, walks, and another Benitez, except Armando used to keep his ERA around 3.00. Check out Burgos’ after tonites meltdown. Thankfully it is only spring, but this guy will be hated in New York, HATED! Send him to AAA and hope somebody can figure out that 98 MPH only means the bombs go further. We still need pitching folks…

I want to see Lino before Burgos this season as of right now.

Well, there you go with Burgos. ERA heading towards 10.00, yet everybody that covers the Mets is handing this guy a spot. Why? Don’t be fooled into thinking that this all goes away when the season starts because it won’t. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Smith stays put and can pitch the 6 or 7th. because Burgos “ain’t da’ man” right now. Like Bill P. always said,”you are what your numbers say you are”.
