Aaron Heilman said he has minor tendinitis in his elbow but would throw an inning tomorrow. Willie Randolph said he might have to be pushed back a day. “It’s nothing serious,” he said.
Jose Valentin’s stiff neck feels better and he’ll play tonight.
Randolph said: “We’re not counting on anything,” when asked about Duaner Sanchez being ready by Opening Day. Believe me, it’s not going to happen.
Randolph said he’ll use his catchers Paul Lo Duca and Ramon Castro the same way he did last year, which tells you what you need to know about the chances of Sandy Alomar Jr., making the team.
Tom Glavine will start tomorrow against Florida. He’ll be followed by Ambiorix Burgos and Lino Urdaneta. Florida will throw: Sergio Miltre, Yusmeiro Petit, Kevin Gregg, Renvel Pinto and Henry Owens (the former Met prospect).
The Mets haven’t announced their starters for Saturday’s split squad games against Washington and Baltimore.
