After the Mets’ 4-1 win over Boston, the team announced outfielder Carlos Gomez was optioned to Class AAA and outfielder Ruben Sierra was re-assigned to the minor league camp.
GM Omar Minaya said Sierra would think on what he wanted to do.
Finally on Sierra. A good sign really that perhaps old friends are not going to be kept around for old times. Alomar, A. Hernandez who remains the most over-matched hitter in years, should go next. What to do with Milledge? Every time he plays its gets harder to send him down. He is the REAL DEAL. Tough decisions are coming and that is always a good thing. Always…

A parting shot tonite. I took a ton of crap last year about my belief in Oliver Perez. I have nevewr waivered and I hope that the rest of you support what he and Peterson are doing. Tonite was excellent. Keep an eye out on Smith and Pelfrey as well. Youth is being very cleverly moved in with the likes of John Maine as well. The alternatives are old, retreads, and stop gap at best. Well done Willie, Omar, and Rick…The future is very brite.

It’s not as bad as the Yankees dissing Bernie, but Sierra could have been a good man for the Mets to keep around. I’ve read that he did not want to go to the minor league camp, and would probably go home to follow his 15 year old sons’ baseball games.

You cannot compare Sierra to Bernie. Bernie was a Yankee Sierra is not a Met.
