Jose Valentin might have come down harder on Duaner Sanchez than any Met. And, he didn’t let up much today, Sanchez’s apology notwithstanding.
“He has to show he means it by what he does,’’ Valentin said. “He has to work hard. We will help him, but the ball is in his court.’’
Sanchez said he would apologize to his teammates face-to-face, but Valentin hasn’t heard anything.
“I’m not waiting for him to come to me,’’ said Valentin.

Valentin at this point should tone it down. He’s getting too big for his britches. There’s no reason to carry on in an adversarial manner; it’s starting to seem like he’s getting something out of it that has nothing to do with Sanchez. Sanchez has gotten the message…the last thing this team needs is clubhouse tension egged on by this player or that when the matter has already been strongly addressed.
Valentin just better work on his defensive skills, they werent looking to good in todays game.
RE. E.L.’s post—->
Agreed. Valentin has made his point and now it’s time to let it be and, unless Duaner acts up again, handle this quietly and let Sanchez prove himself by getting back to full strength and being a dominant force again out of the ‘pen.
Valentin’s been around the game a long time, he’s a lifer type, and very well respected in this clubhouse, and others. All he was saying was that its nice and all that Duaner apologized, but it doesn’t mean much unless the team sees you putting it in action, and he even added that they’re supporting him, nothing wrong with that. I do’nt think, us fans, outside the clubhouse, realize enough Valentin’s role in the clubhouse. Just because he’s not the most productive player on the field, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have stature in the clubhouse. Duaner has to prove he’s past this, not just say how sorry he is. If you were upset about the whole situation in the first place, I don’t quite understand letting him off the hook after he “said he was sorry”, give me a break, talk is cheap.
experience, clubhouse, blah blah blah. Duaner Sanchez is worth a lot more to the team than Jose Valentin.
