“Mike Pelfrey”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7807 was crisp in two hitless innings, so efficient, in fact, that he had to go to the bullpen to throw extra. What I especially liked was he kept the ball down. Ground ball outs can be a more important measure of how a pitcher is doing than strikeouts.
Including a double play in the second, five of the six outs Pelfrey got were on balls hit on the ground.
We’ve now seen all the candidates for the fifth starter job and I think Pelfrey has been the most effective.
