We get a look at Chan Ho Park and Aaron Sele today as the fifth starter auditions continue. Manager Willie Randolph said he’s not into evaluating pitchers after each start.
Truth is, he’s not into talking about them … he IS evaluating them.
Park isn’t shy about his goals.
“I’m here to start,” said Park, who penciled himself in as the third starter, ahead of John Maine and Oliver Perez.
Park was 7-7 with a 4.81 in 21 starts last season for the San Diego Padres. Sele was 8-6 with a 4.53 ERA in 15 starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Mets used 13 different pitchers to start for them last season. Truth is, they’d take either record for a fifth starter.
Morning notes: Neither second baseman Jose Valentin (right ankle) nor outfielder Lastings Milledge (right hand) are expected to play this afternoon against the Cardinals. … Orlando Hernandez said he hopes to throw in the bullpen today.
Time to hit the clubhouse, then the road. Talk with you later.
