February 27: Nice moment

February
27

Joe Smith struck out Lastings Milledge looking on a nasty slider in today’s intra-squad game. That wasn’t the nice moment. That came later when Milledge walked past Smith’s locker, tapped him and said, “Nice job.’’

Milledge has hustled on the field and been engaging off it. It is obvious he is making an effort. I didn’t hesitate when Milledge wasn’t cooperative last year, and I won’t hesitate this spring when he does all the right things.

    John,

we should have a “growth” chart on milledge. So we can actually pinpoint when he becomes a man and a serious ballplayer. I am glad he istrying but remember these are his teammates. its good to see him treat them this way. but lets see what he does outside spring.

    Steve C. (RE: Milledge)

The real test does come in the outside world, you are right.

Awesome reporting on Milledge! it is so great to keep hearing good things. I love that he seems to “get it” and is really making an effort.

Now he just needs to win the starting RF job!!!!!

Shawn Green lefty bat on the bench, this team can carry Chavez and Green as the extra OF’ers and be ok!!! We can do it! Free Milledge!

Steve, we’ll all be awaiting your decision of if/when Lastings becomes a “man” with bated breath. You are the gatekeeper here, no doubt.

I hope for a day when Lastings Milledge doing the right thing isnt a new story. Are we really that surprised by his displays of normal, nice behavior?

NateW, have you been asleep for the past year? People have been coming down very hard on Lastings for his attitude, for not being a good teamate, so yes, when he’s making the effort to improve that, this should be something we take notice in. Were people knee jerk in there reactions last year? Of course, and is this incident something that should be just expected? Yeah, of course, but you gotta start with something, and if the perception is one thing and he’s doing the opposite, it should mean something. I for one am glad he’s opening up a bit, I never understood the people who gave up on him, I always thought, hey, why not just see what happens with this kid? He’s so young, and talented, lets see what he becomes. I didn’t like how he was acting at times last year, but I certainly wasn’t writing him off.

I think Steve C will only believe in Lastings Milledge when Mother Theresa descends from the heavens above and informs him that this is indeed the case.

John, I applaud your efforts to be fair in regards to Lastings. It is very much appreciated.

LMAO close. Casey Stengel needs to come down and tell me.
then sign Milledges bat and hands it to me..
    ;-]

Listen, I am on hard on the guy because he had one over inflated attitude. It affected his game. he didnt decide to really play, after that, until he realized he may not make october. It was very obvious and clear. If he truly does straighten up i will be first in line to tell Willie , keep him!

I would be this way if they brought in John Rocker. I would say if his attitude doesnt get in line show him the door.
