Orlando Hernandez will return to Port St. Lucie, Fla., today, said GM Omar Minaya. Check out “The Journal News”:http://lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070223/SPORTS01/702230399/1035 this morning for the latest on Hernandez’s injury.
So what is the deal with Park?
How is his stuff? Is he healthy? I would rather he or some other vet take the ‘open’ 5th spot to take the pressure off the rooks and let them roll into town in late May or early June when someone breaks down ( mechanically or emotionally ).
I would actually prefer Park win the 5th job. People have to remember that both Humber and Pelfrey have less than 200 professional innings total and now they’re expected to pitch that and then some in ONE season?
Justin Verlander last season was solid but he got ALOT of rest and there was constant re-shuffling of the rotation just because of Verlander. In October he was throwing 92 mph rather than 98 mph, in the ALDS, not good.
I don’t want fatigue to be a factor to Humber or Pelfrey, especially in October.
To Dave and Benny (RE: Park)
The early returns are good, but it has only been batting practice. I am thinking with all else being equal they’ll go with the vet. Especially since with the off-days they won’t need the fifth starter for at least the first two weeks.
