The Mets continue to stockpile pitching, claiming Marcos Carvajal off waivers this morning from Tampa Bay. To make room they designated reliever Steve Schmoll for assignment.
“We got a power arm,” GM Omar Minaya said, noting Carvajal, 22, struck out 70 in 72 1/3 innings last year for Class AA Montgomery. “I like his age and I like his arm.”
Carvajal has major league experience, going 0-2 with a 5.09 ERA in 39 games with Colorado in 2005.
