February 16: An early day

Good morning all. Today began early, with doctors poking and proding your heroes since 6 this morning. There’s always a pecking order in a major league clubhouse. Alay Soler was asked to fill the little bottle at 6. Pedro Martinez didn’t have to until 7.
No doubt Guillermo Mota’s physical will draw some attention.
Later this morning, Willie Randolph will hold court for the first time. On the first day of last year’s camp he proclaimed the Mets were a playoff team. You have to wonder what he says of his team this morning.
Somehow, I don’t see him going out on the limb and predicting a World Series. Who needs the aggravation of making that kind of prediction?

Ha, I think he will probably just proclaim them a playoff team again.
Although with the comfort of his new contract, maybe he will be bold.
Danny (RE: Predictions)
He called them a playoff team, but about the Series, he wouldn't go there. But, you got the feeling he would be disappointed if they didn't take the next step.
Willie's mom didn't raise a stupid kid.
He will say they have high expectations and build from last year.
He won't predict a ring.

Hi John –
Willie probably won't make any predictions – but I will. I think the Mets will go just as far as last year and maybe even farther. They've got a good team and a good clubhouse (sans Milledge) Also, Willie has made a real mark on the team and every player knows just where he stands with Willie and what is expected of him – and most of them respond. Mets also have good coaches etc. and two of the best cheerleaders in the game: Pedro and El Duque!!
I will made a prediction about the other NY Team. If Alex Rodriguez plays this year and Bernie Williams does not, there will be no 2007 World Series win for the Yankees.
Thanks for the info John. I figured Willie would toe the line. He knows the deal.
I think we all would be disappointed if we didn't get a little more progress this year (i.e., a World Series appearance), even with the wild success we enjoyed last year.
Willie won't be making predictions, but he will be setting expectations, which i'm sure he will raise. Everyone on the club knows what they want, but they're not stupid enough to predict it, but it is the goal.
Joan has been drinking up our NY campaigne against Milledge, our evil plan is working.
