Pedro Martinez is in camp which is a good thing, and he’s optimistic, which is good to hear.
“I’ll probably be better than people have seen at Shea,” Martinez said. “According to what the doctors say, I should be coming back stronger and throwing harder.”
All that’s well and good, but we’re still talking about a pitcher recovering from rotator cuff surgery. We’re also talking about a pitcher who hasn’t yet thrown off the mound.
I know it is tempting to think the pitching staff will be all right once Martinez returns. But, part of my job is to be the ants at your Mets picnic … all optimism aside, Martinez is not a given.
