Bobby Cox said the sale of the Braves shouldn’t impact his day-to-day operations of the team. Then again, does he really know for sure?
The Braves have not been aggressive in their pursuit of players the past few seasons, and the announcement of the sale of the team explains a lot as to why they didn’t make a run at Tom Glavine over the winter.
As of now, there’s no word whether on-field management will change, which means Cox and GM John Schuerholz could stay. But, what if new ownership has other ideas? Maybe, after this year they won’t want to stay.
Assuming the sale is approved by MLB by Opening Day, the first chance we’ll see as to the aggressiveness of the new ownership would likely come at the July 31 trade deadline. If the Braves are close and swing a deal or two, then we’ll know the new ownership is playing for keeps.
