We all know there’s no offseason in baseball. We go from the playoffs to the winter meetings to spring training, and in between there’s all the Hot Stove chatter. For me, the inevitability of the baseball season hit when the Colts ran the interception in for a touchdown.
It’s been an interesting offseason for the Mets, mostly because they didn’t acquire a big name starter and will fill from within.
Of all their offseason moves, outside of re-signing Tom Glavine, the acquisition of Burgos just might have the potential of creating the most impact because of the Mets’ reliance on their bullpen.

I certainly don’t think he mailed anything in in the post season. He pitched that game like he did in 3/4 of his games last season. His speed it down and he never did have anything special in his other pitches. He did the best he could I have no problem with that. I think we wanted him to pitch like Cy Young when clearly he’s not even close to Chris Young, he’s an aging pitcher who clearly is on the decline. How is that Mailing it in. But im sure with starting pitching being limited this season he will find a job.
Burgos seemed to be handled very poorly in KC (12 innings above A ball before being called to the majors?!). As long as Dirty Sanchez returns he’ll be in the same role as Julio last year (third righty out of the pen), only with more upside based on age and experience….
Today was a great to confirm the fact there really is no Baseball off-season though, with the two hour Fernando Martinez age-gate rumor!
I caught an interview with minaya on sny last night. It was interesting what he said.
One of the things he mentioned was burgos. but he seemed to come back to reyes several times.
in fact he said jose has only scratched the surface. he seems to feel jose will be the star of this team and if he has only scratched the surface from last year. look out.
he also said that pedro will be back this year and seems to be pretty confident of that.

Oh yes.
He also mentioned how valentin was a major influence on the development of jose; being the veteran and all.

I also don’t think Trachsel mailed it in at any time. He stunk for sure but he was trying. In that playoff game he got off to a bad start and couldn’t regain his composure. It was tough to watch but I think he was doing his best. He was one of my favorite Mets. I hope he has success.
talk about Trash mets. No vaughn is in the news. look what he did with all the met money he got: http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070206/UPDATE/702060419
Steve,
Stop hating Vaughn. Yes he was a terrible Met and barely played. But our esteemed management decided to trade for him and his contract because they are idiots.
I don’t blame him. Someone offered him the money and he said thank you.
It is the owners who are stupid.
If my company offered to pay me $5million/year on a 5 year contract I would accept in a New York minute and not look back :)
Dave
yeah but you would do the work the best you could.
