Willie Randolph doesn’t manage for the money, but money is how the Mets express their respect for him, in what he has done and what the expect in the future. Randolph will now be paid in the upper echelon of ML managers, which means if he thought there was pressure before, look out now.
It doesn’t matter if he has uncertainty throughout his rotation, he’s expected to win. It doesn’t matter if a star or two goes down, he’s expected to win. It doesn’t matter if the bullpen collapses, he’s expected to win.
Randolph might have been snubbed in the past on interviews because he’s African-American, but none of that matters now. If he gets fired, it won’t be because he’s African-American, but because he doesn’t win.

Saw an interview on sny with him. He looked very happy and apparently his wife will get a shiny bauble for his troubles.
He has a right to be happy and pleased with himself. He has done a fine job.

See, Omar was keeping it close to his belt like everything else. This gets a bit old but ya gotta respect the fact that secrets are kept well in met org these days. Way to go Willie!
To Dave (RE: Willie): Yes, the Mrs. will be pleased. He has done a fabulous job.
To Steve C. (RE: Omar): I prefer looser lips, but I know what you’re saying.
