The Mets signed veteran Aaron Sele, once a pinata for the Yankees in the playoffs, to a minor league contract. He’ll join the cast of thousands competing for the fifth starter job.
Carlos Delgado is taking soft-toss batting practice in Puerto Rico and reports no pain or discomfort. He will be re-evaluated next week. Delgado also plans to miss some time around Opening Day for the birth of his first child.

Hi John –
Just want to mention the new blog – I really like it and it is much more user-friendly than the other one was.
Carlos is echoing Tiger who has announced that he may not play in the British Open as that is the due date of his and Erin’s first child.
Did you really get to hear Bernie play the other night?
Sele is a low risk and I prefer Zambrano but i think he’ll get a major league contract from someone. I think were going to go oops when He does well and it’s realized he was playing hurt.
Sele is not low risk, he’s no risk. If he can pitch decent, and doesn’t mind being place in AAA for a spell then this is a good move that gives the rotation depth and isulates us against injury. If Perez self-destructs, or Maine regresses, Sele is good for 15-20 starts and an ERA around 4.50 or so, which is easily as good as Trachsel.
comparing anyone to TRASH-el doesn’t do them justice. If he is consistent that’s all we need. not someone that explodes after 4 innings. ;-]
Yeah: look at the games he blew on a consistent basis?! ;-]
