To Ron Davis (RE: Heilman)

I'm for trading Heilman because he doesn't want to be here as a reliever so they might as well get something while they can.

I would gladly trade Heilman he bellyaches too much about starting. I think if we can traded him with Mike Carp for Blanton fine I would trade Milledge if it is only for Haren or Harden not for Blanton. But I think Heilman will fustrate the team that starts him sure he will look good once in awhile tease you but will reform back to that starter we tried under Art Howe. He is decent as a setup guy really is but why put him a position to fail vs placing him in the pen to succeed.

To 86Mets (RE: Humber, Heilman): To get Haren, or Harden for that matter, I think the Mets would have to give up Humber. Remember, Oakland has the leverage here and doesn't have to make a deal. And, I agree with you about Heilman. The bullpen is the key and he's a big part of it.

To Greg and Omar (RE: Milledge): Dealing Milledge is a gamble. While I would have done it for Zito or Harden, I agee with you that for Blanton might not be a good idea. Milledge did not make a good impression last season, but that's not to say he won't turn it around.

To BDID (RE: Omar under wraps): He does have a way of not tipping his hand. Most annoying for a reporter. You're probably right. They could add Jorge Sosa, but that would be it until spring training.

To Barry White (RE: Weaver): Basically, Weaver wants $40 million over four years because he pitched a couple of good games in October. He's going to have to lower his price. And, the Mets are wary about him in NY.

To Steve C. (RE: Milledge): Losing Heilman might hurt this year. Losing Humber could hurt in the future. If you had to keep one, who would it be?

To Dave (RE: Willis): No chance. The NL is so mediocre that the Marlins could make it as a wild card. No way they deal their best pitcher in the division. Can't see it.

John,

One more thing.

I want to thank you again for being the bridge from the end of the season to spring training.

This is the first time I haven't had a baseball offseason. Since the other sports teams in new york are so bad. At least I can think about a good team during the winter.

Just saw that Willis re-upped with the Marlins for about $6M. Does anyone ( his agent ?) think he is worth $12M/yr less than Zito?

Can we get him? If the Marlins and his agent think so little of him, I would give him $12M/yr/5 years in a heartbeat.

John,

One more thing I read about a few prospects ( pitchers ) on the Mets site. What do you know about these guys? How far away are they? Anyone special down there?

Besides the usual suspects Pelfrey/Humber.

Milledge future of the outfield? Listen, I rather rely on Endy Chavez than Milledge. But as for Losing Heilman or Humber. hmmmm I have isssues with that as well. maybe one of them but not both. I have to agree with John.
As for Blanton/Haren. Haren. We can do without Blanton.

I would not trade Milledge for Blanton. No way, no how!! Can't see that happening giving up a piece of the outfield of the future even if you have Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez on the way up for Blanton straight up. I would deal Milledge, Heilman and a low level pitching prospect for Danny Haren. To take Heilman's spot, you have whoever doesn't lock up the 5th slot after Glavine, Duque, Maine & Haren... to take over Heilman's spot. You can also use Jorge Sosa in Heilman's spot. Keep in mind, you have Oliver Perez, Phil Humber, Dave Williams and Mike Pelfrey to battle for the 5th slot and any of those guys can step in for the senior citizens (Glavine & Duque) should injury beset the staff while Martinez is on the mend until late July. Heilman is overrated... Minaya, make the deal as long as Humber and Pelfrey are not part of the deal.

John, How is Omar so good at keeping things under wraps? You never know an Omar move until it's just about to happen. Which is why I don't believe the A's rumors. Now, if you said the Mets and A's are close to completing a deal, I'd believe it, but not now. Omar is a genious. I fully believe wer're starting the year with what we have.

I would not trade milledge for Blanton. i would really like to trade for Haren though, I would trade millledge and a mid level prospect for Haren. The mets need a front line starter and Haren may be just what we need.

I'd love to have Haren. If it's Milledge & Humber I'd do it in a heartbeat. While I really like Humber, I think the Mets can afford to deal him for Haren. They have Pelfrey, Guerra, Niese, Mulvey, just to name a few, who are top 10 prospects. I'd be reluctant to part with Heilman because he's so vaulable to the bullpen, unless the A's include a reasonable prospect in the deal. Blanton, I think could be had cheaper, though I still think Milledege would have to go. Milledge and a lower level prospect, like Mike Devaney? I don't know. Either way, I hope Minaya & Beane can finally work out a deal.
