January 15: In response to Pedro

Interesting comment regarding Pedro’s age. It wouldn’t surprise me if Pedro is older than 35, even though he’ll never admit it. Many Latin American players are older than they claim to be.
Who really knows how old Duque is?
Yeah, I know Pedro started off quickly last season (at the end of April he was going to be on the All-Star team).
Quality starters are important. If you have three strong, consistency at the back end of the rotation and a strong bullpen, you can get by.
I have to look at Martinez in the worst-case scenario as will the Mets. They can’t afford the luxury of saying he’ll be fine, but what happens if he isn’t by August? That’s why they Mets have been collecting arms for their bullpen.
They are also considering signing Jorge Sosa and are still talking with Oakland about Joe Blanton.

It sure explains his brother Ramon if the Martinez boys fudged their age. I did think that was much harder to do now since 9/11….i thought the only reason the Alfonzo’s were still suspected was they basically live here now, so they wouldnt need to go in and out of the country as much. I could be wrong about all of that though.

To JB …
I don’t think anybody would be surprised if Martinez were older. Let’s say he is 39 or 40 right now. That would have put him at 36 or 37 when he signed with the Mets. No way he gets that money and four years then.
Absolutely not….it sure seems to explain a lot, i will say that much.

They all fudge their age. a few years ago, they caught a little leaguer who’s age was fudged by using is brother’s Birth cert or some such. It’s ridiculous.
I think El Duque is older than Methuselah.
