Morning all …
Thanks for your many responses over the past few days. Meetings are breaking up today. Omar Minaya will leave right after the Rule 5 Draft. I’ll be heading to the airport soon after he leaves.
Freddy Garcia to the Phillies last night was a stunner. Was having dinner with a Philly writer when he got the call around 10. It makes the Phillies stronger and takes away a potential arm from the Mets. It also means the Sox are less likely to deal another starter.
If the Mets leave today without doing anything else, Minaya said he’s happy. He got a power arm for his bullpen and laid the groundwork for further talks. He’s still keeping tabs with Scott Boras about Barry Zito. He’s also talking to Oakland about getting one of its starters. Harden, Haren or Blanton. Late last night I heard more Haren than Harden. The packages offered will vary by player.
Time to check out the draft. Will check back with you later.

Not too happy about Freddy Garcia to the Phillies…their staff is much better than the Mets and I think they are now the favorite. Omar better do something…no way he can be happy with what he has.
The Phillies are still a dysfunctional team, and the Mets know what it takes to win and still are hungry. You have to think that Zito is on his way, I mean NY is perfect for this guy who is a musician (Bernie Williams got his record deal). Look at the rotation after the All-Star break assuming everyone is healthy. Zito, Martinez, Glavine, El Duque, Maine/Perez.
To Paul …
The Mets are still in it for Barry Zito, but they are also looking at the trade market as well.
To Anon …
Minaya said he was talking with the White Sox until the end for Freddy Garcia, but they couldn’t agree on the prospects.
Omar and the Mets will not win the East with a tight pocket book. They have missed on all targets except Zito and the payroll is lower than it was under Phillips.
WHy are you at the Meetings it’s not like the Mets did anything. Go home dude and watch some football.
To Anon …
Agreed … they have to spend more on pitching to win.
What football should I watch? The Giants?
