Just finished meeting with Omar Minaya, and then agent Scott Boras, about Barry Zito. The Mets have not made an offer, but talked parameters on the length of the contract. Boras wants six, but Minaya wouldn’t say where he’s at. Presumably, it is lower.
Minaya also said he’s confident of making a deal before the meetings break up. He didn’t rule out the possibility of something happening tonight. “I feel confident about some things,” Minaya said.
Depending on whom the Mets get back, they could still entertain Zito thoughts. However, trading for a high end starter and then adding a high end free agent are unlikely.
Boras said the two sides would continue to talk. He said the market for Zito is more than just the Mets and Texas, and that he has offers on the table.
