It is being reported Julio Lugo just agreed to a four-year, $36-million contract with the Boston Red Sox. Can you imagine if he signed with the Mets for that?
I never liked him for the Mets in the first place. That’s a lot to spend for mediocrity, and you can always get a player of his ability, and for a lot less.
If Lugo is worth that, then you have to ask yourself what’s Jose Reyes worth? Certainly more than the $23.25 million the Mets signed him for this summer.

Am I the only one who thinks Theo has flipped his lid with this and the Drew deal. Seriously, will 2 years even go by before they regret this and get stuck? Whats the over/under on Drew playing in 100 games in an odd number year (2007)?
Thanks for the awesome coverage, your blog is definitely a “must read” this offseason!!!
Yep, nice job by Omar locking up Wright and Reyes to such reasonable deals.
The free agency market has just gotten out of control. Beltran is now a bargain. Reyes and Wright are HUGE bargains. Getting Alou for cheap and for just 1 year was a very smart move when guys like Gary Matthews Jr. are getting 5 years $50 million.
To JB …
I thought Drew was nuts to give up $33 million guaranteed to go back on the market. He doubled his money. Amazing.
I agree..i thought it was nuts too….now the only one who looks nuts is Epstein…
